Sacramento Care Homes Fined $800K for Wage Violations

Sacramento, California — Several senior care facilities in the Sacramento region, including locations in Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova, and Davis, have been ordered to pay over $800,000 in fines for wage violations, including failure to pay overtime wages. The U.S. Department of Labor announced the penalties following an investigation that uncovered the exploitation of workers, many of whom were women and low-wage earners.

The owner of six regional elder care facilities, including Laguna Village and Laguna Springs in Elk Grove, Havenwood and Capital Senior Care in Sacramento, and Signature Living in Rancho Cordova, was fined more than $300,000 for not compensating 44 employees for overtime hours worked. An additional $18,000 penalty was also assessed.

Timeless Homecare Inc., which operates Amada Senior Care in Davis, was also penalized for partial overtime pay violations, with nearly $28,000 in wages and damages recovered from two employees. The company faced an additional $2,000 fine.

These violations highlight ongoing issues within California’s home health care and personal care industry, which employs more than 700,000 workers. Federal officials continue to address widespread overtime pay violations, recovering millions of dollars in back wages each year.
