Monterey Caltrans Party Leads to Potential Termination of 10 Employees

MONTEREY, Calif. — A workplace misconduct investigation is underway following reports of an inappropriate celebration, now widely referred to as the Monterey Caltrans party, that could lead to the termination of multiple public employees.

The incident occurred on July 10 at a Caltrans maintenance yard in Monterey. According to reports, a retirement gathering escalated into an event involving alcohol and a hired exotic dancer. Witnesses say several attendees were seen throwing money during the performance—all while still on the clock and being paid with public funds.

Twelve employees were present at the event. Authorities say some individuals were later observed driving Caltrans vehicles after consuming alcohol, which triggered immediate concern for public safety and policy violations.

As a result of the investigation:

  • 10 employees have received notices of termination
    2 additional employees face suspension

Caltrans officials continue to review the incident and determine appropriate disciplinary actions based on agency policy and state labor standards.
