Labor Violations in Sacramento: Taqueria Under Scrutiny

CALIFORNIA – An investigation conducted by the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor has revealed a concerning situation in Sacramento.

The employer behind the three Taqueria Los Inmortales restaurants, operated under different entities, has been found guilty of inadequately compensating its employees, thus violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The main finding of this investigation into labor violations in Sacramento has been the omission of payment for overtime hours worked by employees, despite exceeding the 40-hour workweek. This unfair practice was systematically carried out, with hours worked not properly recorded and overtime paid at standard rates, in cash, thus omitting the corresponding additional payments.

As a result of this investigation, a total of $90,383 in unpaid overtime wages was recovered, along with an equivalent sum designated as damages compensation for 22 employees affected by this situation.

This success in recovering back wages and compensation is crucial to restoring labor justice and ensuring that workers receive the compensation they deserve.

In addition to the restitution of owed wages, the employer faced significant civil monetary penalties, amounting to a total of $7,980 for the intentionally committed infractions. These sanctions aim not only to compensate affected workers but also to deter future non-compliance and promote a fair and equitable work environment.
