Ex Staff Sue Kanye West’s School Over Hazardous Conditions and Unpaid Wages

Former staff members of Kanye West’s private Christian school have come forward with shocking allegations of dangerous working conditions and unfair treatment. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, reveals a lack of glass in windows, exposed electrical and telephone wires, and even an electrical fire near a student eating area.

Isaiah Meadows, a former assistant principal, claims that he raised these concerns with West and the school’s director, but they went unaddressed, leading to his eventual termination. Two teachers had already filed a similar lawsuit against West two months prior. The latest legal action also includes allegations of unpaid wages and wrongful termination. West’s attorneys have yet to respond to the claims.

The Kanye West school lawsuit highlights specific incidents, such as rainwater seeping into the classroom through an open skylight due to West’s alleged dislike of glass. This resulted in moldy odors and an unsuitable learning environment. Furthermore, the presence of exposed electrical and telephone wires posed safety risks. One incident even led to an electrical fire near where students ate their meals.

Meadows, who uprooted his family to work at the Yeezy Christian Academy, claims West promised him a $165,000 salary and rent payment. Although rent was initially covered for three months, it stopped in February 2021 after Meadows voiced concerns about the school’s operations. He had to cover approximately $60,000 in rent and living expenses out of his pocket.

In April 2021, Meadows sent an email on behalf of himself and other staff members, addressing inconsistent or nonexistent pay. The school was later renamed Donda Academy in honor of West’s mother, but the problems persisted. Meadows was demoted and ultimately terminated in August 2022 without an explanation.

The complaint filed by two former instructors in April added to the litany of issues, alleging that students were only fed sushi for lunch, made to eat on the floor, and that staff were restricted from using cleaning products with chemicals. These instructors were also terminated after raising concerns about conditions and payment.

Kanye West and his team have yet to comment on the matter.
