San Francisco, California – In a surprising turn of events, the renowned Waterfront Restaurant, an iconic seafood establishment on San Francisco’s waterfront with over half a century of history, is now at the center of a collective lawsuit.
Legal proceedings were initiated by Savita Bayram on November 6, directly targeting The Bundox Restaurant Corp., the entity backing this establishment, and accusing it of engaging in “illegal, unfair, and deceptive business practices.”
Bayram, who was part of The Bundox Restaurant Corp.’s staff from July 2022 to November 2022, has filed the lawsuit on her behalf and on behalf of all those who have worked for the corporation in the past four years.
The allegations focus on various aspects, including the failure to pay minimum wages, the omission of compensation for overtime and sick days, as well as the absence of mandated rest and lunch breaks, along with unjustified terminations and other labor violations.
The case takes a dramatic turn when Bayram claims she was unjustly fired after a peculiar incident. Allegedly, Cheryl Falchi, the owner of the Waterfront Restaurant, scolded Bayram for attempting to drink water during her shift. According to the lawsuit, in an incident witnessed by the entire kitchen staff and a waiter on October 30, 2022, Falchi demanded that Bayram log her time for taking a sip of water.
This triggered what is described as a “senseless outburst,” leading to Bayram’s employment termination. The plaintiff argues that this action constituted unfair retaliation, marking the beginning of the series of accusations now faced by The Bundox Restaurant Corp.
With this collective lawsuit against Waterfront Restaurant, the famous establishment is confronting an unprecedented legal situation in its 54-year history. As the case unfolds, attention is drawn to Bayram’s allegations and how they will impact the reputation and ongoing operations of the establishment.
It is the responsibility of employers and corporations to uphold fair and ethical labor practices, even in businesses with a long-standing legacy like this iconic seafood restaurant in San Francisco.
